Threshold rule and scaling behavior in a multi-agent supply chain

2010

In this paper an agent-based model of self organized criticality is developed in a network economy characterized by lead time and a threshold behavior of firms. Instead of considering the aggregate production of the economy as a whole, we focus on both the propagation and amplification effects of a demand shock in the sectorial productions of a multi-agent supply chain. We study a static network structure representing a relation of firms in a lower-upper stream in an industrial organization. In our model, the individual (R, nQ) policies play an important role in generating a propagation effect across the different layers of the economy, and the propagation turns into the large fluctuations …

Female Cyborgs, Gender Performance, and Utopian Gaze in Alex Garland’s Ex Machina

2020

The cyborg as a metaphor for cultural encodings of the interaction between humans and technology has been an accepted trope since the publication of Donna Haraway’s “Cyborg Manifesto.” Alex Garland’s 2015 film Ex Machina shares many of its key themes and motifs with earlier science fiction films, from Fritz Lang’s Metropolis to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. A first viewing of the film thus suggests an interpretation that focuses on the film’s portrayal of its female cyborgs Ava and Kyoko as another version of the “pleasure model” in the mode of Lang’s Maria or Scott’s Pris. However, it is the tension between Ava’s intelligence and visual attractiveness and her performance of a female gender …

Combined strength and endurance exercise induced fatigue and recovery

2012

Muscular fatigue is usually defined as the inability to maintain a given exercise intensity or adequate muscle force and therefore maximal isometric force, neural activation and fast force production capacity have often used determinants of acute fatigue. The purpose of the present study was to measure the acute effects of combined strength and endurance exercise on force production, muscle activation and work economy. In addition this study investigated the rate of recovery comparing the active and passive recovery models and the association of the initial fitness levels of subjects. 16 (27 ± 4 years old) male reservists performed combined strength (5x10x70%RM leg-press) and endurance (5x1…

Nowa gospodarka ery informacji

2016
